CAPLIS will no longer be valid as of 31st March 2008.
- 28th May 2007
As announced when it was operationally introduced, the inter-company the hands free automatic toll tag specifically for use by HGVs will permanently replace the "Caplis" payment cards as of 31st March 2008. The Caplis card will no longer be accepted as a method of payment on the French motorway network as of this date.
Since its commercial introduction in April 2007, the take up of the TIS PL hands free automatic toll tags has been significant: more than 310 000 toll tags were currently in use at the end of 2007 giving rise, up to this same date, to more than 1 367 000 transactions over the whole concession motorway network in France.
The TIS P.L. hands free automatic toll tags provides real advantages:
• For HGV drivers: quicker and easier passage through the toll barriers, with no ticket to take, nor payment card to present.
• For the company financial services: a simplified processing of toll accounts due to a single invoice covering all sums due to the various motorway concession companies.
Four companies, approved by the Automatic Toll Tag Commission of the ASFA, distribute the TIS PL toll tag, namely: AXXES, EUROTOLL, TOTAL and DKV.
Eventually, the TIS PL automatic toll tag will be able to be used as a method of toll payment on other European motorway networks.
Introduction of automatic hands free toll tags for HGVs in France.
- 25th May 2007
After more than two years of studies, development, tests and trials, the French motorway concession companies have just proceeded with the launch of the commercial phase of the "TIS-HGV", inter-company automatic hands free toll tag destined for use by HGVs, which in the long term, will replace the "Caplis" payment cards.
The architecture of the system is based on the separation of the functions of the concession companies (such as ALIS) and the companies issuing the automatic toll tag contracts, in adherence with the recommendations of the CESARE III project of the European Commission. In addition, the tags and their coding system will offer higher security of information to both the users and the motorway operators.
Four automatic toll tag issuing companies have obtained full approval from the Automatic Toll Tag commission of the ASFA, in view of commercialising these tags: AXXES (subsidiary of APRR and ASF), EUROTOLL (subsidiary of SANEF), TOTAL and DKV.
As for the "Liber-t" automatic toll tags, the "TIS-P.L" will be able to be used over the whole of French concession motorway network. However, unlike the "Caplis" system, automatic toll tag subscribers will only receive one monthly invoice for the payment of all tolls to be paid, sent by the one automatic toll tag issuing company.
With respect to ALIS, the software and hardware development required for this new method of payment of tolls has been delegated to ASCOM (the supplier of the toll system equipment for the A28 motorway) and to SANEF. The system has been operational on the motorway since the end of April.
