Chaumont Operations Centre's third open day event - A great success
- 17 june 2009

The third Open Day, organised on the 5th and 6th June at the Chaumont Operations Centre, within the framework of the national event initiated by the French Motorway Association (ASFA), met with a great success. In fact, 220 people - including some twenty students from Gacé College and thirty local representatives - responded to the invitation sent by Alis and Routalis for an "exclusive insight into the workings of the motorway".

As in previous years, the visitors were able to enjoy the welcome of the members of staff of the organising companies who presented an explanatory video film, showing how they are constantly working to ensure the comfort and safety of the drivers, as well as the protection of the environment.

The functioning of the Central Post of Operations, the Routalis material and equipment, the Gendarme units along the motorway, first aid and breakdown services, the toll equipment, water reservoirs and treatment areas along the motorway network, the main role of the patrol staff – a supporting demonstration of placing cones and of collecting discarded items - are all part of the many aspect of motorway life which the visitors were able to discover.

It was the demonstrations of the cutting out victims from a vehicle involved in a simulated accident the provided the most memorable moments of the Open Day 2009. Organised with the participation of the Gacé firemen, the Sées Gendarmerie unit and the Lecomte de Nonant-le-Pin garage, these activities, which perfectly simulated the authentic unfolding of events during an assistance operation, allowed the spectators to witness the competence and professionalism of the teams called upon for aid in the case of an accident. Alis and Routalis would like to thank all the participants and the visitors who contributed to the success of these two days - going under the heading of meeting and discussion.

The "Blanc Buisson" Festival: 7 centuries of history in the Ouches Region.
- 8 june 2009

The "Blanc Buisson" Festival will take place on 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th of June next. The 2009 edition of the medieval Blanc Buisson sound and light festival will allow both young and old to discover 700 years of history of the Ouche Region, as seen from the world of cinema. From the middle ages to the third millennium, this grand living panorama traces the history of the Blanc Buisson castle and its region by reliving the major events that took place in around this feudal castle that was built during the reign of King Philippe le Bel, in 1290. 150 actors and volunteer organisers have contributed a lot of energy and enthusiasm to ensure that this new edition of the festival is a success which has required no less than 13 600 hours preparation. Once again, Jacques Weber will narrate the festival.

This interactive show mixes dreams with reality, large scale living scenes and small intimate dialogues that has already been appreciated by more than 10 000 spectators, which makes the Blanc Buisson festival, without a doubt, one of the major events of the summer season in Normandy. It is for this reason that Alis deemed it important to participate once again in this event by being a partner for this unique festival. This partnership shows yet again our intention of actively participating in the tourist and cultural development of Normandy.

Apple tree grafting alongside the Gacé intersection
- 13 mai 2009

Twenty-five children from the Jean Moulin secondary school in Gacé will certainly not forget their botany lesson that took place on 28th April 2009. Accompanied by their Science teacher, they actively took part in a grafting operation organised by Alis. On this occasion about ten fruit trees, among the thirty which were planted inside the motorway limit, during construction, received a grafting of either rare Normandy species or of those species which are in the process of disappearing in France.

This event, undertaken in collaboration with the "Porte des Pays d'Auge" Orchards Association and the Vimoutiers Cider Cooperative, who supplied the grafts, took place in the presence of François Dreux, Mayor of Gacé, Gérard Rosé, Headmaster of the school and Thierry Parizot Managing Director of Alis.

Over the years to come, all the rootstock plants will be gradually grafted and similar processes will take place on the landscaped areas around the motorway intersections of Sées and Bourg-Achard. An integral part of the "biodiversity" section of the Sustainable Development policy implemented by Alis, these operations are proof of the interest shown by the company concerning preservation and the emphasis put on the natural environment of the A28 Rouen - Alençon.

Theatrical evening at Hermos Manor
- 30 mars 2008

Set in 12 hectares of parkland, planted with several genus, Hermos Manor at Saint-Eloi de Fourques, served, many times, as hunting lodge for Henri IV. But, if the Vert Galant had returned on the 7th of February last, he would have found himself present at a very successful theatrical evening. In fact, on the initiative of Mr and Mrs Noël-Windsor, owners of this historical residence, the actor Jean-Michel Dhermay presented his show " Let me take you into the wings" an ingenious piece which lets the audience hover between dressing rooms and stage allowing them to share in "the madness, the anxiety, the unexpected, the comedy, the extraordinary and the extravagant, but also in the joy and the emotion" of the actors. The talent of the interpretation delighted the audience, who were also able to enjoy being present at a diner in the enchanting setting of the Manor. As partner to this event, Alis continues its participation in the development of cultural and touristic activities in the Region.

For more information on Hermos Manor (Le Manoir d'Hermos) concerning the guest rooms and reception and seminar facilities please visit www.hermos.fr

Congratulations to the happy winners!
- 13 février 2008

Their correct answers were drawn out of the hat from amongst many correctly filled in question sheets. Madame Pioger, from Sablé (Sarthe), Monsieur Leleu, from Tourcoing (Nord) and Monsieur Bertran, from Montivilliers (Seine-Maritime) are the winners of the competition organised by Alis to celebrate the third edition of the touristic brochure "a motorway in the heart of Normandy"

Thanks to the support of the Eure, Orne and Calvados Departmental Tourism committees, as winners, they have won a stay for 2 persons, including accommodation and restaurant in a charming hotel or bed & breakfast. During this time they may certainly discover a region, they already know well, even further, having given the correct answers to the four questions on the heritage and culture of Normandy.

Alis wishes a very pleasant stay in Normandy to each of them.

New tariffs and new offers
- 30 janvier 2008

Alis has updated, as for previous years, the toll tariffs as of 1st February 2009.

In keeping with the concession agreement concluded with the State, the average tolls will increase as of this date by 3.9% for HGVs (classes 3 & 4) and by 6.1% for light vehicles (classes 1, 2 & 5).

This increase in the toll tariffs – which is an integral part of the A28 motorway financing plan – is indexed in particular on the rate of inflation of the month of October of the previous year.

At the same time, the services provided to motorway users have continued to expand: in 2008, the work carried out on the Roumois toll plaza with the addition of an extra lane allowed a more fluid flow of traffic during peak traffic periods and a new offer aimed at drivers covered under the accompanied driver scheme was launched.

This expansion of services will continue throughout 2009, with in particular the extension of the HGV parking area on the Les Haras service area (35 additional spaces) and a subscription offer giving students a 50% reduction on all tolls of the Rouen-Alençon section of the A28 motorway.

This offer will come in addition to the range of hands free toll tag subscriptions "Liber-t" proposed by ALIS, for which there is no operating costs, toll tag deposits (for private individuals), nor minimum subscription period.

ALIS would also like to remind users that the HGV parking areas on the Les Haras (Orne Department) and Domaine d’Harcourt (Eure Department) service areas are patrolled overnight by security guards with dogs at no charge to the drivers, in order that the HGVs, their drivers and loads are safe.

Total success for the "Objectif Air Pur" animation
- Novembre 2008

Alis, being fully aware of its responsibilities in terms of road safety and sustainable development, recently conducted a unique operation, dubbed "Objectif Air Pur: Clean driving in Normandy", aimed at increasing drivers' awareness of environmental challenges in their region and encouraging them to adopt an environmentally-friendly behaviour.

From 2nd July to 18th October this year, a mobile workshop was made available on supermarket car parks and public squares in the communities close to the A28 Rouen-Alençon motorway to those people who wished to submit their vehicles to an ecologic diagnosis. This technical inspection, based on the control of CO2 emissions, lights and tyre pressure, also included a display introducing the environmental importance of a responsible driving behaviour. Alis's partners in charge of the operation were of course available to answer questions from the public on the subject. In addition, some companies and local government authorities were able to take this opportunity to have their fleet of vehicles tested. For example, the Orne Departmental Council entrusted the whole of its vehicle pool, company cars and buses, to the "Objectif Air Pur" teams.

In total, 747 vehicles were inspected in this manner over 4 months. Although most of those met pollution standards, tyre pressure often proved insufficient. Yet tyres that are under-inflated by 20% are known to cause a 3% increase in petrol consumption and in harmful discharges when driving at 90km/hour. They also lead to a markedly increased chance of accidents. It is therefore important to control tyre pressure regularly. A monthly check is recommended.

Faced with the evident interest aroused by this initiative, Alis has taken the decision to repeat the "Objectif Air Pur" operation in the coming months. The terms of the next campaign will be made available on this site in due time.

A special "Driving School" offer to learn motorway driving
- Octobre 2008

Alis has added to and reinforced its initiatives aimed at Road Safety by giving driving schools the opportunity of using the A28 Rouen /Alençon motorway free of charge, by means of a hands free toll tag, for up to 3 hours per driving test candidate.

This offer is aimed at familiarising future drivers as early as possible to motorway driving conditions. It completes the preferential toll tariffs imitative introduced this summer for drivers taking part in the accompanied driving scheme: Liber-t Confort Accompanied Driving Option.

For more information on this new offer, please contact our customer care department on (33) (0)2 20 21 70 or write to us at contact@alis-sa.com.

"Take a break and you'll learn more on Road Safety": an event much appreciated by motorway users en route to their holiday destinations.
- Septembre 2008

On 5th July and 2nd and 16th August last, many A28 Rouen-Alençon motorway took up the invitation of Alis to take a break …More than 500 people took advantage of a relaxing and educative halt at the Harcourt service area, where facilities where provided free of charge by the concession holder and their partners (Groupama, Vernon Automobile Club, Eure Department Prefecture, National Road Safety and the Gendarmerie Nationale). This event was organised as part of a communication campaign initiated by National Road Safety and the ASFA (Association of French Motorway Concession Companies) who want motorway users to be aware of the dangers of falling asleep at the wheel.

Even if participants most appreciated the comfort of the sun beds, parasols and massaging chairs, they were also able to find out more on road safety due to many free activities and presentations.

The game of the "car with 13 defects", for example, allowed participants to revise basic safety rules to drive in the best of conditions. With particularly impressive simulations, the star attractions were - the "roll-over car" and the "crash car"; the "drunk glasses" also allowing motorists to experience the real dangers of risky behaviour.

The younger visitors participated with much enthusiasm in the "Safety Quiz" and the cycle route and where able to win many prizes.

Collection of tolls on the Argentan South–Sées section of the A88 motorway: Alis, a subcontractor for Alicorne, the new state appointed motorway concession holder.
- Septembre 2008

The construction of the A88 motorway has reached a new significant stage by the official start of the concession contract between the State and the concession holding company Alicorne (motorway linking the Calvados and Orne departments).

With a concession length of 55 years, this new concession covers the design, construction, finance, maintenance and operation of the motorway, that via Falaise and Argentan, will connect Caen to the A28 motorway at Sées, by the end of 2010.

As part of this process, the start of the collection of tolls for the Sées - Argentan South section became effective as of 26th August 2008 at midday.

As part of this first phase, the toll will only be collected at the full lane toll plaza of Sées, located on the A28 motorway.

It is therefore ALIS, concession holder of the Rouen – Alençon section of the A28 motorway, that will be responsible for the collection of tolls, on behalf of Alicorne, as their subcontractor, to whom the toll is due.

The toll tariffs applied are as follows:

Class1 2.90

Class 2 4.70

Class 3 7.00

Class 4 9.10

Class 5 1.80

On the opening of the whole of the A88 motorway, at the end of 2010, the toll collection infrastructure will be completed by a second full lane toll plaza located at the Nécy interchange.

A day at the zoo with the "Secours Populaire".
- Septembre 2008

At the end of August 2008 - as for every year since 1979 – the French Secours Populaire (a charity aiding the needy) organised for those not able to go on holiday, the "A Day-Out for the forgotten ones". It is within this context that on 23rd August last, the Normandy branch of the organisation invited around one hundred families, i.e. nearly 400 people to take advantage of a day out at the zoo in La Flèche.

Both young and old were able to discover the zoo, in the Sarthe Department, that on a 14 site counts nearly 1200 animals belonging to 150 species; they were able to watch captivating demonstrations carried out by unusual actors such as Eagles and Seals!

In associating ourselves to this initiative, by giving free access to the coaches transporting the participants to the motorway, ALIS shows again its commitment to the local community and its wish to participate in the everyday life of the region.

Vièvre, Land of Mysteries: a show that makes historic rime with magic...
- 7 juillet 2008

Year after year, "Vièvre, Land of Mysteries", a major historical panorama acted and sung live by 12 actors and more than 150 participants, has established itself as one of the highlights of the summer cultural season in Normandy. Presented with an impressive production, each new edition of the show brings its share of innovations: projection of giant images, quadraphonic sound, remarkable pyrotechnic effects, participation of riders and their mounts, horse drawn carriages, etc. The show is the result of the work of more than 250 volunteers over a period of several months to bring life to their project and is a living spectacle that takes you back in time to discover the events that has marked the history of the Vièvre and the surrounding area.

The upcoming edition, which will take place as of 10:30 pm on 11th, 12th, 13th, 18th, 19th, 25th and 26th July, 1st and 2nd August 2008, will be set, as in previous years, in the grounds of the Fortière Manor at Epreville en Lieuvin (Eure department). In keeping with its policy of actively participating in the development of the Region's tourist and cultural attractions Alis has deemed it important to participate in this event by being a partner for this 2008 edition.

Take a break, road safety reveals all!
- 1 juillet 2008

Having become the major cause for accidents on the motorway, falling asleep at the wheel is a risk that faces all drivers, on short journeys, as well as on long. For this reason, the Road Safety Association and the motorway concession companies have joined forces in order to point out the risks to holiday motorists by organising an information campaign over the summer period. As it is essential that motorists regularly take a break (at least every two hours), Alis invites A28 Rouen - Alençon motorway users to take a relaxing and educational break on the Domaine d'Harcourt Rest Area (exit n°13, Brionne) on 5th July, 2nd and 16th August next between 10:30 am and 6:30 pm.

For your comfort and relaxation, deck chairs, parasols and massaging chairs shall be provided to visitors of the rest area. Alis and its partners (the insurance company Groupama, the Vernon Automobile Club, the Eure Department Prefecture, the Road Safety Association and the Gendarmerie Nationale) have prepared various free activities for visitors, centred on safety whilst at the wheel. Participants will be able to see first hand, the risks of careless driving by seeing "rolled" and "crashed" cars as well as experience the effect of drinking alcohol when wearing the "drink & drive" glasses and discovering their limits with alcohol and reaction time simulators. After having revised their knowledge of the essential rules for motorway driving, they will be able to play the game of the "car with the 13 anomalies". Younger visitors will be able to test their road knowledge by riding a Cycle Proficiency course and will try to find the correct answers to the "Road Safety quiz". Prizes (safety jackets, watches, board games, etc.) will reward the most perceptive among them.

In addition, motorists will be able to discover the "Pure Air Objective", an original operation designed to raise awareness concerning atmospheric pollution caused by road transport and to incite them to adopt a more "eco-responsible" behaviour when behind the wheel. Organised at the initiative of Alis - in partnership with Routalis, the motorway operating company and Poids Lourds Bernayens, a certified HGV breakdown organisation – this operation allows drivers to have a free ecological diagnostic of their vehicle that measures the level of exhaust emissions of their vehicle and the wear and pressure of the tyres. Also, the "Pure Air Objective" team shall propose an initiation in "eco-driving" and will give advice on how to drive more economically and to reduce pollution. Educational panels will present ways in how to adopt a more civic and responsible attitude when at the wheel.

Equally present during these events, members of the Gendarmerie Nationale motorway policing patrols will present, among other things, the "new generation" of speed check radars and cameras.

A renewed success for the "Open Day" that allows the general public to get to know how a motorway is operated on a day-to-day basis.
- 17 juin 2008

For the second year running, the A28 Rouen-Alençon motorway Operations Centre at Chaumont participated, on 6th and 7th June last, in the National Motorway Operators open days "Discover the Motorway" initiated by the ASFA (French Motorway Companies Association). More than 250 people were able, over the two days, to meet the men and women that watch over the motorway users' safety and comfort throughout the year. It was also an opportunity for the visitors to test their knowledge of motorway safety by the means of various workshops and presentations.

Alis, the A28 Rouen - Alençon motorway concession holder and Routalis, the motorway operator, can be satisfied with the results. With an increase of 25% in visitor numbers and a friendlier atmosphere, this second edition of the A28 "Open Days" was a marked success.

After a welcoming coffee, an orange juice and a cake, visitors were able to talk freely to the members of the personnel of the various companies organising the event, the Vernon Automobile Club, the Road Safety Directorate, Sées Gendarmerie Unit and of the Caen Gendarmerie Information and Recruitment Centre, that made it a point of honour to provide clear and concise answers backed up with evidence to the many questions asked.

With Road Safety being the main theme for this year's "Open Days 2008", many presentations and simulations were centred on this theme. Each member of the public was thus able to test themselves through the game "Car with 13 errors". The icing on the cake came from the fat that participant received a "Safety" Kit" (a fluorescent waistcoat and a warning triangle): a gift all the more appreciated as this kit will become obligatory to be carried at all times in your vehicle as of 1st July next. The younger visitors were able to participate in a Road Safety Quiz and test their road skills on a bike, to win watches and board games.

The main attractions were the "somersault car" and the "drunken glasses", the latter which allowed you to experience the extent to which irresponsible behaviour can be a danger and to better appreciate the advice on driving given by road safety professionals.

3rd edition of the Tourist Guide "A motorway through the heart of Normandy"
- 9 juin 2008

This year again, the users of the A28 Rouen - Alençon motorway can count on Alis to help them discover Normandy's natural and cultural heritage. To this end, the 2008 edition of the tourist guide (3rd edition, produced in partnership with the Paris – Normandie Newspaper), is available free of charge from all toll barriers on entry to the motorway as of XX May.

Therefore, reading through the 40 illustrated pages, this French/English bilingual guide, with a print run of 100 000 copies, invites the motorist to discover the best tourist attractions, cultural and natural, signposted along the route of the motorway. The 2008 edition includes, in addition, its share of new features:

• Now systematically presented in a double page format, the description of each tourist attraction (about fifteen in total, all easily accessible from the motorway), has in addition a "Did you know?" section where tips are given on how to get the most from your visit; a sure way of making it one to remember …

• The "Where to stay" section proposes many ideas for places to stay whilst visiting the region, that are original; from restaurants proposing mouth watering local cuisine to cosy or grand gust houses typical of Normandy. Contact information is provided so that you may obtain information before your journey or to make an immediate reservation.

• A free competition - 4 questions about the cultural and natural heritage of Normandy – will allow 3 lucky participants to win a break for two with the participation of the tourist offices of the Eure, Orne and Calvados Departments. A full board two day break for two can be won in a charming country residence or chateau hotel or guest house.

• Finally, there are two pages giving advice on motorway driving …. AND on taking a break during the journey. In effect, falling asleep at the wheel remains the N°1 cause of accidents on motorways. "Know how top take a break" is a golden rule in terms of driving safely on the motorway.

Friday 6th and Saturday 7th June 2008: "Open Day" at the Chaumont Operations Centre.
- 29 mai 2008

For the second year running, Alis and Routalis, concession holder and motorway operator respectively of the A28 Rouen- Alençon Motorway, are participating in the National Motorway Operator open days organised on the initiative of the ASFA (French Motorway Companies Association). On this occasion, the motorway staff invites the general public to a two-day "Open Day", taking place this year on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th June, from 10:30 am to 7:30 pm, at the motorway operations centre located next to the Les Haras Service Area (between Orbec & Gacé).

Hosted by the motorway patrol, toll booth, operations, maintenance and sales staff, the daily routine of the motorway operation shall be explained and how each of them contributes to the comfort and safety of motorway users. You will be able to visit the control room and understand how it operates and monitors motorway traffic as well as inspect the vehicles used on the motorway (salting truck, snow ploughs, signalling trucks, etc.). In addition, the Gendarmerie Nationale, responsible for the policing of the motorway, shall also participate in theses open days in order to present the new generation of radars.

In particular, special emphasis has been placed in safety at the wheel: many presentations covering this subject will be made. You will be able to see the danger of risky driving with the "barrel car" and the "drunken" glasses; you will be able to discover your limits with alcohol simulator; after having revised the basic road safety rules for motorway driving, you can have a go at wining a road safety kit (which shall become obligatory to carry one in each and every vehicle as of 1st July 2008). And as it is never too young to learn, the younger members of the family can participate in the Road Safety bike course, with the possibility of wining attractive prizes for the best cyclists!

The "Blanc Buisson" Festival: 7 centuries of history in the Ouches Region
- 01 fevrier 2008

On 23rd May 2008, at 10:30 pm, the first presentation of the "Blanc Buisson" Festival will take place to be followed by further shows that will run for 3 consecutive Fridays and Saturday. The festival will allow the public to discover the history of this admired feudal stronghold, the origins of which date back to the end of the 13th century. An impressive light & sound show relives the significant adventurous events of this former stronghold.

150 participants trained by 7 professionals, 6 months rehearsing, 1000 hours of work spent on costume making, requiring 200 m of cloth, an additional 800 hours to make the set and accessories; the new production for 2008 promises to be a particular success, all the more so as it is Jaques Weber in person that will narrate this major living historical panorama.

With an expected 1000 spectators each evening, the "Blanc Buisson" Festival is certainly one of the major attractions of the summer season in Normandy: It is for this reason that Alis deemed it important to participate in this event by being a partner for this 2008 edition. This partnership offered by the A28 motorway concession holder shows yet again its intention to actively participate in the development of the Region's tourist and cultural attractions.

New toll tariffs as of 1st February and motorway improvement projects for 2008
- 01 fevrier 2008

Alis carried out its yearly update of motorway toll tariffs on 1st February 2008.

In compliance with the concession agreement validated by the State in 2001, the average tariff of the five classes of vehicles will increase by 5.5% as of this date.

This increase in toll tariffs - which is calculated on the basis of the rate of inflation - contributes not only to the financing of the A28 motorway awarded under concession to Alis, but equally to the continuous development of services proposed to motorway users.

Within this context, the following improvements have been scheduled for 2008:

• the extension of the Roumois toll plaza (at the junction with the A13), in order to improve the everyday flow of vehicles through the barriers,

• the continuation of studies for the construction of a new limited access junction in the proximity of the Roumois toll plaza, giving direct access to and from the A28 and the ex -RN 175,

• the extension of the HGV parking area at the Les Haras service area (situated between Orbec and Gacé).

At the same time, Alis continues the marketing of Liber-t hands free toll tag subscriptions, without any administrative costs, providing discounts to frequent users of the motorway with reduction of up to 35% in the toll tariffs.

Alis would also like to remind HGV drivers that overnight supervision at the Les Haras and Domaine d'Harcourt service areas is carried out by security staff and guard dogs, in order to provide a safe place for drivers, vehicles and goods to stop overnight.

The first section of the A88 motorway, between Argentan and Sées, was opened to traffic on 26th November 2007. This new 15 km motorway section, built by the state, contributes to road safety and reduces journey times between the Rouen - Alençon A28 motorway and the towns of Argentan, Falaise and Caen.

Awaiting the future appointment of the concession company that will operate the A88 motorway, ALIS will operate this section during the interim period, temporarily without toll, on behalf of the state.

By the year 2010, the A88 will directly link Caen to Sées, via Falaise and Argentan. This motorway will give the Orne Department quick and easy access to the Normandy coast and the major channel ports of Caen, Ouistreham and Cherbourg. This new door to Continental Europe from the British Isles will provide a new route, via the Rouen - Alençon A28 motorway, to the major road network that exists in the West, Centre and South West of France.

With the opening of the A88 motorway, Normandy will complete access to the national and European motorway network, necessary for the development of the regional economy and tourism.
