The Harcourt castle and its arboretum
The Harcourt castle, though austere in appearance but nevertheless remarkable, is one of the best preserved medieval sites in Normandy. Perfectly restored by the Eure Department Council, Harcourt, with its fortified walls and towers dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries, provides a particularly interesting example of Norman medieval military architecture.
The exceptional arboretum of the site was created in 1840. Considered to be the oldest in France, it contains more than 400 species and varieties of forest and ornamental trees and shrubs covering over 7 hectares. A marked out route taking you along beautiful walks, allows you to discover Sequoias, Bald Cypresses, Giant Thuyas and others such as Himalayan Cedar.
