On 9th & 30th July and 6th & 13th August last, and in spite of the inclement weather, several thousand motorists using the A28 Rouen - Alençon motorway took advantage, this year again, of the activities and facilities made available and organised by Alis.
On this occasion, the Domaine d'Harcourt rest and service area was host to a Normandy Produce market and Arts & Craft fair where the stall holders proposed their produce and craft to holidaymakers using the motorway en route to or returning from their holiday destinations. In addition, comfortable loungers were provided for the more tired motorists where as traditional arcade games (skittles, etc) were provided for those with more energy. The younger holidaymakers, ignoring the inclement weather, enjoyed themselves on the bouncy castles that were set up just for their pleasure. The mini-farm with its animals was also very popular, but in spite of their requests, the children were unable to continue their journeys with an adopted chick or kid! However, they were encourage to take away with them a free "relaxation" CD in order to find out more on the subject of relaxing halts made on motorway journeys, essential in increasing the safety of motorway users.
With these "holiday encounters" which allow motorists to relax during their journeys, Alis not only wants to make their journeys comfortable and enjoyable, but also incite them to take a relaxing break. In effect, falling asleep at the wheel when over tired from driving remains today the major cause of fatal accidents on motorways and regular rest stops effectively participates in increasing the safety of all motorway users.
